The journey begins - Kyoto and Koya

Wakayama, Koya

In the woods of the Oku-no-In temple

Trip into the west.
This and the following posts are all about a longer trip in which I explored the west of Japan. After a short stop in Kyoto, I stayed on Koya-san in a temple lodging.
In Kyoto I visited the Imperial Palace and the Ginkaku-ji as there was no time in the former Kyoto trip for those places.
On Koya-san the Oku-no-In buddhist temple and the area around impresses with it’s mystical atmosphere given by the wood merging with the old graves and structures.
Despite being April, it snowed and was very cold up there.
The over night stay in a temple lodging with vegetarian Buddhist monk meals and early morning praying ceremonies was also something I am glad I could experience. I loved the food and the feeling staying in this temple.
Best regards
Fab
